English translation

4430. Narrated Ibn 'Abbās رضي الله عنهما used to let 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه sit beside him, so 'Abdur-Raḥmān bin 'Amr said to 'Umar, "We have sons similar to him (in age)." 'Umar replied, " (I respect him) because of his status that you know." 'Umar then asked Ibn 'Abbās about the meaning of this Holy Verse : "When there comes the Help of Allāh (to you, O Muḥammad ﷺ against your enemies) and the Conquest (of Makkah)." (V.110:1) Ibn 'Abbās replied, "That indicated the approaching death of Allāh's Messenger ﷺ which Allāh informed him." 'Umar said, "I do not know of it except what you know."
