English translation

4479. Narrated Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet ﷺ said, “It was said to the Children of Isrāel, ‘Enter the gate (of the town), in prostration (or bowing with humility) and say: Hittatun (i.e., forgive us).’ But they entered by dragging themselves on their buttocks, so they did something different (from what they had been ordered) and said, ‘A grain in a Sha’ra (a spike or a hair) instead of Hittatun’(1).”
