4485. Narrated Abū Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Taurāt (Torah) in Ibrānī (Hebrew) and they used to explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say: - 'We believe in Allāh and that which has been sent down to us...'" (V.2:136)
4485 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ المُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: كَانَ أَهْلُ الكِتَابِ يَقْرَءُونَ التَّوْرَاةَ بِالعِبْرَانِيَّةِ، وَيُفَسِّرُونَهَا بِالعَرَبِيَّةِ لِأَهْلِ الإِسْلاَمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لا تُصَدِّقُوا أَهْلَ الكِتَابِ وَلا تُكَذِّبُوهُمْ، وَقُولُوا: {آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْنَا} [البقرة: 136] الآيَةَ
