English translation

4600. Narrated 'Aīshah رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَاregarding the Verse — "They ask your legal instructionconcerning the women, say: Allāh instructsyou about them ... (till) ... and yet whom youdesire to marry..." (V.4:127): (This Verse has been revealed regardingthe case of) a man who has an orphan girl,and he is her guardian and her heir. The girlshares with him all his property, even a date-palm (garden), but he dislikes to marry her,and dislikes to give her in marriage tosomebody else who would share with himthe property she is sharing with him; and forthis reason that guardian prevents thatorphan girl from marrying. So, this Versewas revealed.

4600 - حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا: {يَسْتَفْتُونَكَ فِي النِّسَاءِ، قُلْ: اللَّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِيهِنَّ} [النساء: 127] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {وَتَرْغَبُونَ أَنْ تَنْكِحُوهُنَّ} [النساء: 127] قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: «هُوَ الرَّجُلُ تَكُونُ عِنْدَهُ اليَتِيمَةُ هُوَ وَلِيُّهَا وَوَارِثُهَا، فَأَشْرَكَتْهُ فِي مَالِهِ حَتَّى فِي العَذْقِ، فَيَرْغَبُ أَنْ يَنْكِحَهَا وَيَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهَا رَجُلًا، فَيَشْرَكُهُ فِي مَالِهِ بِمَا شَرِكَتْهُ فَيَعْضُلُهَا، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ»
