The Prophet ﷺ called Aṣ-Ṣalāt (the prayer) a deed and said, "Whoever does not recite Al-Fātiḥa of the Book (i.e., Sūrat Al-Fātiḥa) in his Ṣalāt then his Ṣalāt (prayer) is invalid. (See H. 756, Vol. 1)

English translation

7534. Narrated Ibn Mas'ūd رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: A man asked the Prophet ﷺ "What deeds are the best?" The Prophet ﷺ said: "To perform the Ṣalāt (prayers) at their early stated fixed times(1), to be good and dutiful to one's own parents, and to participate in Jihād in Allāh's Cause." 7534 - حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الوَلِيدِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنِي عَبَّادُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الأَسَدِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ العَوَّامِ، عَنِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنِ الوَلِيدِ بْنِ العَيْزَارِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «الصَّلاَةُ لِوَقْتِهَا، وَبِرُّ الوَالِدَيْنِ، ثُمَّ الجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ»
