1269. It was narrated from Shurahbil bin Simt that he said to Ka'b: "O Ka'b bin Murrah, narrate to us a Hadith from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, but be careful." He said: "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, ask Allāh for rain!' So the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allāh! Send wholesome, productive rain upon all of us, sooner rather than later, beneficial and not harmful.' No sooner had they finished performing Friday (prayer) but they were revived. Then they came to him and complained to him about the rain, saying: 'O Messenger of Allāh, the houses have been destroyed!' He said: 'O Allāh, around us and not upon us.' Then the clouds began to disperse right and left." (Hasan)

Commentary
It is all right to ask a man of virtue and piety to invoke Allāh for mercy, regardless of whether the matter is of individual concern or of communal interest.
The instant answering of the prayer by Allāh, was both an act of His mercy, as well as a proof of the veracity of the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and a miracle performed by him by Allāh's permission.
The supplication for rain contained in the Hadith stands more chances of meeting with Allāh's grace and quicker acceptance.
