'The dying person' in this Hadith means a person at the verge of death. 'Persuading a dying person to recite Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshiped but Allâh)'; the scholars explained the phrase that the people around the dying person should recite Lâ ilâha illallâh; so that the person on death bed may recite by hearing it from other people. It is incorrect to understand from this Hadith that the persuasion by Lâ ilâha illallâh is after the burial at the grave, for the Prophet ﷺ did not do so nor was it narrated on the authority of any Companion of the Prophet through an authentic chain, so it must be avoided. Of course, making supplication for the steadfastness of the person after the burial is authentically proven by the Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ. (Sunan Abu Dâwud: 3221)
