Commentary

Funeral prayer is a prayer and Suratul-Fâtihah (the Opening Chapter of the Qur'ân) must be recited in every prayer; as it has been mentioned in Ahâdîth 837 to 843. Suratul-Fâtihah is recited after the opening Takbir (Saying 'Allâhu Akbar' to commence the prayer). (Sunan An-Nasâ'i: 1991) This is also the opinion of Abdullâh bīn Mas'ud ؓ as Nawâb Wahi-duz-zamân Khân mentioned in the footnotes of Hadîth 1496 in Sunan Ibn Mâjah.
