English translation

1569. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter." (Sahih)

Arabic text

1569 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «زُورُوا الْقُبُورَ؛ فَإِنَّهَا تُذَكِّرُكُمُ الْآخِرَةَ»

Commentary

a. Visiting the graves means to go to any cemetery. b. The graves with buildings over them do not fulfill the real objective of reminding us of the Hereafter.
