English translation

163. It was narrated that Barâ' bin 'Azib said: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'Whoever loves the Ansâr, Allāh will love him, and whoever hates the Ansâr, Allāh will hate him.'" (One of the narrators) Shu'bah said: "I said to 'Adi: 'Did you hear that from Barâ' bin 'Azib?' He said: 'It was to me that he narrated it.'" (Sahih)

163 - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ أَحَبَّ الْأَنْصَارَ أَحَبَّهُ اللَّهُ، وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَ الْأَنْصَارَ أَبْغَضَهُ اللَّهُ» قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: قُلْتُ لِعَدِيٍّ: أَسَمِعْتَهُ مِنَ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ؟ قَالَ: إِيَّايَ حَدَّثَ

Commentary

Hatred towards those devotees of Islam is indicative of hatred towards Islam, as well as towards the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. It, therefore, follows that hatred towards the Helpers (Ansār) can only lodge in the heart of a hypocrite.
