a. Friday is a weekly 'Eid' of Muslims. Therefore fasting on Friday only, from the aspect of its being 'Eid', resembles fasting the day of 'Eid'. b. Fasting on Thursday is recommended by the Sunnah as follows in Hadith 1739 and 1740. Friday's fast combining with that of Thursday or Saturday becomes permissible too.
