English translation

1970. It was narrated from 'Aishah that whenever the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was to travel, he would cast lots among his wives. (Sahih)

Arabic text

1970 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَمَانٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، كَانَ إِذَا سَافَرَ أَقْرَعَ بَيْنَ نِسَائِهِ»

Commentary

In matters of wives, equality and justice must be observed to the maximum possibility. If more than one individual has a right to something, and the thing cannot be divided into shares, then the decision can be made by drawing lots.
