Commentary

The fruit from the orchard of someone may be eaten during hard times only to ward off hunger. Picking more than one's need from the fruit of someone's garden and to carry some away after eating it is not allowed, rather it will be an act of stealing. If the value of the stolen property is equal to a quarter of a Dinâr (approximately one gram gold), then the hand of the thief is to be cut off. (See Hadith: 2585)
