Commentary

'Everyone in the heavens' means the angels, and 'on earth' means Allāh's creation on earth, namely animals, minerals, insects, birds and sea creatures, etc. The presence of a virtuous man on earth is a blessing for all the creatures. The Hadith confirms the high place of honor and status of teachers and preachers before Allāh. Conveyance of Allāh's Message and propagating it could be done either through word of mouth, or writing, or formal teaching, provided that the promised honor will only go to a person if he is also acting upon the knowledge he is delivering to others.
