English translation

2773. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbâs that the Prophet ﷺ said: "If you are called to arms then go forth." (Sahih)

Arabic text

2773 - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ بَكَّارِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ بُسْرِ بْنِ أَبِي أَرْطَاةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي شَيْبَانُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا»

Commentary

a. If there is opportunity of participating in Jihâd against disbelievers, then one should practically take part in it. b. In an established Islamic government, Jihâd requires the permission of the ruler.
