Commentary
Harrah means the piece of the earth that has black stones. Abu Marwân, the narrator of the Hadith, said that the 'two Harrahs here means' the two areas of Al-Madinah full of black stones.
Such two pieces of land are situated in the east and west of Al-Madinah that are called 'eastern Harrah' and 'western Harrah'. Eastern Harrah is known as Harrah Waqim and the western Harrah is known as Harratul-Wabrah. These are the boundaries of the sanctuary of Al-Madinah from east and west side. While its boundary from the northern side is the mountain Thawr, which is to the north of mountain Uhud, and mountain 'Aer from its southern site. The mountain Uhud is within the 'Aer sanctuary.
