English translation
3162. It was narrated that Umm Kurz said: "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'On behalf of a boy, two sheep of equal age and on behalf of a girl one sheep.'" (Hasan)

3162 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَهِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سِبَاعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ كُرْزٍ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «عَنِ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ مُكَافِئَتَانِ، وَعَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ»

Commentary
There are many opinions concerning the meaning of the word Mukaf'atan (of equal). i) Equal in age. ii) They should be slaughtered equally, i.e., at the same time (slaughtering time should not be different such as one is slaughtered in the morning and the other in the evening). iii) They should be equal to the sacrificial animal. Imâm Ibn Hajar ﷺ, preferred the second opinion. (Fathul-Bâri, vol.9, 733)
