Commentary

A shrike is a small bird with a big head, white stomach and greenbacked. It lives on small birds and insects. (Footnotes of Ibn Mājah by, Muhammad Fuwâd Abdul-Bâqî, referring to the dictionary Al-Munjid.) Ibn Athîr said this bird has a big head and big beak; its feathers are partially white and partially black.
