Abu 'Abdullāh (Ibn Mājah) said: "I heard that Abu 'Ubaidah Al-Jawād said: 'This is half of knowledge, because the world is land and sea. I have told you about the sea so there remains the land.'"

Commentary
The taste of the water of an ocean is different from the common water, so the Companion doubted whether ablution, with this water, is correct or not? Then the Prophet clarified it by this statement. (See Ahādīth no. 386, 387 and 388)
Sea animals, whether they die in the sea or outside, are lawful.
