3360. Safinah, Abu 'Abdur-Rahmān, narrated that a man visited 'Ali bin Abu Tālib and he made some food for him.[1] Fātimah said: "Why don't we
invite the Prophet ﷺ to eat with us?" So they invited him and he came. He put his hand on the doorpost of the house and saw a thin curtain in the corner of the house, so he went back. Fātimah said to 'Ali: "Go and catch up with him, and ask him: 'What made you go back, O Messenger of Allāh?'" He said: "I do not enter a well-decorated house." (Hasan)

Commentary
Simplicity is preferred in the Shari'ah; keeping away from unnecessary formalities is better.
Admonishing immediately for a mistake is advisable provided there is harm in its delay.
If any inviting person commits an unlawful matter then not attending the party is allowed. However, if he refrains from the mistake then one should not be absent from the occasion.
