English translation

3567. It was narrated from Samurah bin Jundab that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Wear white garments, for they are purer and better." (Hasan)

Arabic text

3567 - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْبَسُوا ثِيَابَ الْبَيَاضِ، فَإِنَّهَا أَطْهَرُ وَأَطْيَبُ»

Commentary

White color is preferable so, wearing white clothes on important occasions is preferable. White dress is beautiful and dignified. The reason is that any impurity on it could be noticed easily, so it is washed out rapidly and carefully. Therefore, it remains more pure than other clothes. White cloth is preferable for shrouding. Nevertheless, any other cloth is permissible especially a striped garment. (See Sunan Abu Dāwūd: 3150)
