3651. It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “Jibril ﷺ promised the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ that he would come to him at a certain hour, but he was late. The Prophet ﷺ went out and there was Jibril standing at the door. He said: ‘What kept you from entering?’ He said: ‘There is a dog in the house, and we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image.’” (Sahih)

Commentary
Jibrail ﷺ came according to his promise but could not enter the house.
The Prophet ﷺ was not aware of unseen knowledge; otherwise, he would have got out the dog and Jibrail, ﷺ would not need to wait outside.
Keeping the pictures of respected persons or children for decoration, using the pictures of human beings or animals as decoration pieces, watching films on television or VCR, terminate blessings and mercy of Allāh from the house. So, one should avoid such things.
