English translation

3822. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Allāh says: 'I am as My slave thinks I am, and I am with him when he mentions me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me a hand-span length, I draw near to him a forearm's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him in a hurry.'" (Sahih)

Commentary

One must have good faith in Allāh. The correct way of having good faith in Allāh is doing good deeds with the hope of their acceptance, and repenting from sins looking to His forgiveness. On the other hand, rushing fast towards sins and hoping the mercy of Allāh is foolishness. The Hadith strongly instructs people to go on performing deeds since without deeds reward can not be expected. Hence, only the good doers can expect good from Allāh and the evil doers can expect the bad only.
