English translation

4085. It was narrated from 'Ali that the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: "Mahdi is one of us, the people of the Household. Allâh rectifying him in a single night." (Hasan)

Arabic text

4085 - حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفَرِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَاسِينُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْمَهْدِيُّ مِنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ، يُصْلِحُهُ اللَّهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ»

Commentary

'Rectifying him in a single night' means that he will repent sincerely, suddenly, and become righteous person, or he will get the required leadership qualities suddenly, and become eligible to rule people.
