A person needs both matters; having hope in Allāh's mercy and fearing from His displeasure and anger. Hope incites him to do more good deeds, and fear prevents him from sins. During this life, fear of Allāh should overcome the hope in the mercy of Allāh, but at the time of death, hope should prevail over fear.
