Commentary

This proves that the recitation of Al-Fâtiyah (Opening Chapter of the Qur'an) is a Rukn (basic article) of prayer. There can be no prayer without it. 'There is no prayer for the one who does not recite Fâtiyahatil-Kitâb in it' clearly means that this rule applies to all denominations of prayer – obligatory prayer, voluntary prayer, Imâm's prayer, follower's prayer or the individual's prayer. Which is to say that reciting Fâtiyah is essential for one and all.
