English translation

962. It was narrated that Abu Musa said: "The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: 'I have gained weight, so when I bow, then bow, and when I stand up, then stand up, and when I prostrate, then prostrate. I should never find anyone preceding me in bowing or prostration.''" (Sahih)

Commentary

The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ had gained a little bit of weight because of advancing age. Maybe, someone relatively young and agile got the notion that the Prophet ﷺ performed the prayer slowly because of his physique, but for the others who could do it with agility, there was no harm in doing it quickly. The Prophet ﷺ, however, made it plain that the followers have to follow the Imâm in all cases.
