Commentary

If the pillars in a mosque intervene between the worshippers' rows in a congregational prayer, the continuity of the row gets broken. That is why forming rows for prayers between the pillars is forbidden. If the prayer is not congregational, then there is no harm in standing between the pillars, since the people praying there are not forming a row that could get broken. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ is known to have prayed standing between two pillars in the Sacred Ka'bah (Sahih Al-Bukhārī: 468)
