Text and translation

English translation

1052. It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'When the son of Ādam recites a Sajdah[1] and prostrates, Satan withdraws weeping, saying: 'Woe is me! The son of Ādam was commanded to prostrate and he prostrated, and Paradise will be his; I was commanded to prostrate and I refused, so I am doomed to Hell.'" (Sahih)

Commentary

The Hadith indicates the legality or lawfulness of prostration for reciting the Qur'an. Other texts, however, tell us that this prostration is not obligatory. It nevertheless is an act meriting reward from Allāh.
