English translation

1198. It was narrated that Āishah said: "When the Prophet ☼ prayed the two (Sunnah) Rak'ah of Fajr, he would lie down on his right side." (Sahih)

Arabic text

1198 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: «كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ»

Commentary

It is a Sunnah to lie down after performing the two (Sunnah) Rak'ah before Fajr, but it is also proven that he ☼ sometimes avoided doing it. It is also reported from 'Aishah ☼ that, after finishing his Rak'ah of Sunnah before Fajr, if she had been awake, he would talk to her, otherwise he would lie down until he was informed of the Iqamah for Fajr. prayer (Sahih Al-Bukhârî:1161)
