English translation

126. It was narrated that Mu'âwiyah bin Abu Sufyân said: "The Prophet ﷺ looked at Talhah and said: 'This is one of those who fulfilled their covenant.'"[1] (Hasan)

Arabic text

126 - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْأَزْهَرِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، قَالَ: نَظَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى طَلْحَةَ، فَقَالَ: «هَذَا مِمَّنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ»

Commentary

The Hadith accords great honor to Talhah ﷺ by describing his death as a covenant fulfilled by him. In other words, the deeds done by him were considered so meritorious that he was ranked as a martyr even before his death.
