Commentary

a. Grief of the heart and shedding tears is not contrary to patience, other than this, some people do various types of sacrilegious things which are Islamically forbidden. b. It was people's custom before Islam that they would cry over the deceased and express their sorrow, by singing poetry of praise about the the deceased with a loud voice, and they also used to tear their clothes. Islam prohibits all these things.
