Commentary

Abstaining from only eating and drinking is not sufficient to achieve piety, but also a mindful and realistic effort is demanded to avoid every kind of sin. As we observe fasting, we even abstain from Allāh's lawful things; so avoiding the things which are already prohibited as Harām in a state of fasting becomes even more necessary; so that a believer adopts a habit to abandon them permanently.
