Commentary

Apparently putting a condition is against the spirit of manumission. Manumission means free from all conditions. In this case, putting a special condition was an honor for Safinah. Putting a condition on a slave at the time of his manumission to do some virtuous deed, is not against the spirit of manumission, rather it is an opportunity for him to do a righteous deed. Maybe 'stipulated' here means only a promise taken at the time of manumission.
