2762. It was narrated from Abu Umâmah that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever does not fight, or equip a fighter, or stay behind to look after a fighter's family, Allâh will strike him with a calamity before the Day of Resurrection." (Hasan)
2762 - حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الذِّمَارِيُّ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَنْ لَمْ يَغْزُ أَوْ يُجَهِّزْ غَازِيًا أَوْ يَخْلُفْ غَازِيًا فِي أَهْلِهِ بِخَيْرٍ، أَصَابَهُ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ بِقَارِعَةٍ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ»

Apart from personally participating in Jihâd, financial support of a fighter or serving and taking care of the family of a fighter is also like participating in fighting for Allâh's cause. If one cannot participate in fighting for Allâh's cause individually, then he must take part in the other two tasks; otherwise, he is considered guilty of abandoning fighting for Allâh's cause.
