English translation

2834. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbâs that the Prophet ﷺ said: "War is deceit." (Sahih)

Arabic text

2834 - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنْ مَطَرِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ»

Commentary

Deceiving in war means adopting a strategy that misguides enemies so that they can not perceive the tactics of the Muslim army. Hence, they may not be able to interrupt the plans of Muslims.
