English translation

4173. It was narrated from 'Abdullāh that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "No one will enter Paradise who has pride in his heart equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and no one will enter Hell who has faith in his heart equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed.” (Sahih)

Commentary

Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the truth and despising people. Even a small amount of pride is also disapproved by Allāh. If pride incites a man to deny believing in Allāh and His Prophet ﷺ, or to reject the rulings of Allāh, he will surely be thrown into Hell. Anyone who is proud and self-conceited and looks down upon others out of his richness, physical beauty, social and intellectual prominence and family status, commits a great major sin.
