Commentary

Covering the head for prayer is compulsory for a woman, even if she is secluded from the sight of others. This command for covering is not related to rulings concerning veil, which is not needed before non-marriageable near relations. Singling out 'woman' for the ruling clearly indicates that it is a female-specific ruling, and a man can perform prayer without a cover on his head. However, even for men it is not desirable to make it a habit to perform prayer with a bare head.
