839. It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed said: "The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: 'There is no prayer for the one who does not recite in every Rak'ah: Al-Hamd (Al-Fâtihah) and a Surah whether in an obligatory prayer or another.'" (Da'if)

Commentary

a. The Hadith suggests that, along with Al-Fâtihah, some other part of the Qur'ân must also be recited. But the Hadith is 'Weak'. As such the only obligatory recitation is that of Al-Fâtihah. Reciting some other text of the Qur'ân is voluntary, not obligatory. (Injâh Al-Hâjah)
