English translation

[2439] 133 - (...) It was narrated that Anas bin Mâlik said: “The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ gathered the Anshâr and said: ‘Is there anyone else among you?’ They said: ‘No, except the son of a sister of ours.’ The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: ‘The son of the sister of a people is one of them.’ Then he said: ‘The Quraish have only recently left Jâhiliyyah behind and have suffered a calamity, and I wanted to help them and soften their hearts (towards faith). Does it not please you that the people are going back with worldly gains, and you are going back to your houses with the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ? If the people were to follow a valley and the Anşâr were to follow a mountain pass, I would follow the mountain pass of the Anşâr.”

133 - (1059) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْأَنْصَارَ، فَقَالَ: «أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ؟» فَقَالُوا: لَا، إِلَّا ابْنُ أُخْتٍ لَنَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ ابْنَ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْهُمْ» فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ، وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْبُرَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ، أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا، وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ؟ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا، وَسَلَكَ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا، لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ»
