English translation

[2818] 25 - (1187) It was narrated from 'Ubaid bin Juraij that he said to 'Abdullâh bin 'Umar [may Allâh be pleased with them]: "O Abû 'Abdur-Rahmân! I have seen you doing four things that I have not seen any of your companions doing.” He said: “What are they, O Ibn Juraij?” He said: “I saw that you do not touch any of the corners (of the Ka’bah) except the two Yemeni corners, and I saw you wearing Sibtiiyah sandals, and I saw you applying Sufrah, and when you were in Makkah, I saw the people (beginning the Talbiyah) when they saw the crescent, but you did not (begin the Talbiyah) until the day of At-Tarwiyah.” ‘Abdullâh bin ‘Umar said: “As for the corners, I did not see the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ touch any but the two Yemeni corners. As for the Sibtiiyah sandals, I saw the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ wearing sandals on which there was no hair and performing Wudû’ in them, so I like to wear them. As for the Sufrah, I saw the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ using it and I like to use it. As for (beginning the Talbiyah), I did not see the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ (begin the Talbiyah) until his mount set off with him.”

25 - (1187) وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، رَأَيْتُكَ تَصْنَعُ أَرْبَعًا لَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ يَصْنَعُهَا، قَالَ: مَا هُنَّ؟ يَا ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُكَ لَا تَمَسُّ مِنَ الْأَرْكَانِ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ، وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ السِّبْتِيَّةَ، وَرَأَيْتُكَ تَصْبُغُ بِالصُّفْرَةِ، وَرَأَيْتُكَ، إِذَا كُنْتَ بِمَكَّةَ، أَهَلَّ النَّاسُ إِذَا رَأَوُا الْهِلَالَ، وَلَمْ تُهْلِلْ أَنْتَ حَتَّى يَكُونَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ. فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ: «أَمَّا الْأَرْكَانُ، فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمَسُّ إِلَّا الْيَمَانِيَيْنِ، وَأَمَّا النِّعَالُ السِّبْتِيَّةُ، فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَعَرٌ، وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا، فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا، وَأَمَّا الصُّفْرَةُ، فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْبُغُ بِهَا، فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَصْبُغَ بِهَا، وَأَمَّا الْإِهْلَالُ فَإِنِّي لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُهِلُّ حَتَّى تَنْبَعِثَ بِهِ رَاحِلَتُهُ»
