[3080] 260 - (...) Hiṣḥām bin 'Urwah said: My father told me: I said to 'Aishah: "I do not think there is any sin on me if I do not go between Aṣ-Ṣafā and Al-Marwah." She said: "Why?" I said: "Because Allāh, the Mighty and Sublime, says: "Verily, Aṣ-Ṣafā and Al-Marwah are of the Symbols of Allāh..."[1] -mentioning the verse. She said: "If it was as you say, then it would be: 'It is not a sin on him if he does not go between them.' This was revealed concerning some of the Anṣār who, when they entered Iḥrām during the Jāhiliyyah, they entered Iḥrām for Manāt, and they thought that it was not permissible for them to go between Aṣ-Ṣafā and Al-Marwah. When they came with the Prophet ﷺ for Hajj, they mentioned that to him, and Allāh, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed this verse. By Allāh, a person's Hajj is not complete if he does not go between Aṣ-Ṣafā and Al-Marwah."
