English translation

[3242] 399 - (...) It was narrated from 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, that the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: "Do you not see that when your people rebuilt the Ka'bah, they made it smaller than the foundations of Ibrâhîm?" She said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, why don't you restore it or the foundations of Ibrāhīm?' The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'Were it not that your people have only recently left disbelief behind, I would have done that.'" ‘Abdullāh bin ‘Umar said: "If ‘Āishah heard this from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, I would not think that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ stopped touching the two corners that are next to the Hījr, except that the House was not completed on the foundations of Ibrāhīm."

399 - (1333) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ، أَخْبَرَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَلَمْ تَرَيْ أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حِينَ بَنَوْا الْكَعْبَةَ اقْتَصَرُوا عَنْ قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ» قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَفَلَا تَرُدُّهَا عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْلَا حِدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَفَعَلْتُ»، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ: «لَئِنْ كَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ سَمِعَتْ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، مَا أُرَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَرَكَ اسْتِلَامَ الرُّكْنَيْنِ اللَّذَيْنِ يَلِيَانِ الْحِجْرَ، إِلَّا أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ»
