English translation

[4145] 5 - (1616) Jâbir bin 'Abdullâh said: "I fell sick and the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ and Abû Bakr came walking to visit me. I lost consciousness, and the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ performed Wudû' then poured some of the water on me, and I regained consciousness. I said: 'O Messenger of Allâh, how should I dispose of my wealth?' He did not give me any answer until the Verse of inheritance was revealed: They ask you for a legal verdict. Say: Allâh directs (thus) about Al-Kalâlah (those who leave neither descendants nor ascendants as heirs)..."[1]

Footnotes

  1. 1

[1] Scholars differ over the meaning of Kalâlah, what is popular is that it refers to the person who dies, leaving no parent or child. For details see the Tafsîr of Ibn Kathîr published by Darussalam, Sûrat An-Nisâ' 4:12, and 176.
