English translation

[4733] 23 - (1830) Al-Hasan narrated that 'A'idh bin 'Amr, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ, entered upon 'Ubaidullâh bin Ziyâd, and he said: "O my son, I heard the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ say: 'The worst of guardians are those who are cruel. Beware lest you be one of them.” So he said to him: “Sit down; you are no more than one of the chaff of the Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ.” So he said: “Was there chaff among them? Rather the chaff came after them, and among people other than them.”
