[5401] 6 - (2068) It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb saw a striped silk Hullah[1] being sold at the door of the Masjid, and he said: "O Messenger of Allāh, why don't you buy this and wear it for the people on Fridays, and for the delegations when they come to you?" The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "This is only worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter." Then some Hullahs like it were brought to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and he gave one of them to 'Umar. 'Umar said: "O Messenger of Allāh, are you giving me this to wear when you said what you said about the Hullah of 'Uṭārid?" The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "I did not give it to you to wear it." So 'Umar gave it to an idolater brother of his in Makkah.
