English translation

[892] 52 - (...) It was narrated from Al-Awzā'ī, from 'Abdah; that 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb used to recite these words out loud: "Subḥānak Allāhumma! Wa biḥamdik, wa tabārakasmuk, wa ta'āla jadduk, wa lā ilāha ghairuk." (Glory and praise be to You, O Allāh! Blessed be Your Name, and exalted be Your Majesty, and there is no God but You.)" And, from Qatādah, that he wrote to him,[1] informing him, that Anas bin Mālik had narrated to him: "I prayed behind the Prophet ﷺ, Abū Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthmān. They used to start their recitation with: 'Al-ḥamdu Lillâhi Rabbil-Âlamîn' (All the praises and thanks be to Allâh, the Lord of the 'Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)), and they did not say, 'Bismillâhir-Raḥmânir-Raḥîm' at the beginning of their recitation, nor at the end."
