[1347] 142 - (595) It wasnarrated from Abû Hurairah -and this is the Hadîth ofQutaibah - that the poorMuhâjirîn came to the Messengerof Allâh ﷺ and said: "Thepeople of great wealth havetaken the highest ranks andeternal bliss." He said: "Why isthat?" They said: "They offerSalât as we offer Salât and theyfast as we fast, but they give incharity and we do not, and theyfree slaves and we do not." TheMessenger of Allâh ﷺ said:"Shall I not teach you somethingby means of which you may catchup with those who have goneahead of you, and go ahead ofthose who come after you, andthere will be no one who is betterthan you except those who do asyou do?" They said: Yes, O
Messenger of Allâh. He said: "Glorify Allâh, extol His greatness, and praise Him at the end of every prayer, thirty-three times."[1]
Abû Sâlih said: "The poor Muhâjirîn went back to the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ and said: 'Our wealthy brothers have heard what we did and they did likewise.' The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: 'That is a bounty from Allâh; He gives it to whomever He wills.'"
Someone other than Qutaibah added to this Hadîth, narrating from Al-Laith from Ibn 'Ajlân: "Sumayy said: 'I narrated this Hadîth to one of my family and he said: "You have forgotten. 'Rather he said: "Glorify Allâh thirty-three times, praise Allâh thirty-three times and extol Allâh's greatness thirty-three times.''" I went back to Abû Sâlih and told him that. He took my hand and said: 'Allâhu akbar: va subhân Allâh wal-hamdu Lillâh, Allâhu akbar wa subhân Allâh wal-hamdu Lillâh, until you reach a total of thirty-three.'"
Ibn 'Ajlân said: "I narrated this Hadîth to Rajâ' bin Haiwah, and he narrated something similar to me from Abû Sâlih, from Abû Hurairah, from the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ."
