English translation

[2505] 9 - (...) It was narrated from 'Abdullâh bin Dînâr that he heard Ibn 'Umar [may Allâh be pleased with them] say: "The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: 'The month is twenty-nine nights. Do not fast until you see it (the crescent), and do not break the fast until you see it, unless it is cloudy. If it is cloudy, then count it.'"

9 - (1080) وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَابْنُ حُجْرٍ - قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى: أَخْبَرَنَا وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ: «الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ لَيْلَةً، لَا تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، وَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، إِلَّا أَنْ يُغَمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ»
