English translation

[2595] 81 - (1111) It was narrated that Abū Hurairah said: "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'I am doomed, O Messenger of Allāh!' He said: 'What has doomed you?' He said: 'I had intercourse with my wife in Ramaḍān.' He said: 'Do you have the means to free a slave?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Can you fast for two consecutive months?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Do you have the means to feed sixty poor people?' He said: 'No.' Then he sat down, and a large basket of dates was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: 'Give this in charity.' He said: 'Is there anyone poorer than us? There is no family between the two fields of volcanic rock (meaning between the two mountains of Al-Maḍīnah) that is more in need of it than us.' The Prophet ﷺ smiled until his eyeteeth were visible, then he said: 'Go and feed it to your family.'"
